Background & Education
With a background and degree in Chemistry and a passion for taking a hands-on approach to everything in life, our talented winemaker, Colm, was led to the world of winemaking at an early age.
He studied Viticulture and Oenology at Sussex’s revered Plumpton College, earning his BSc in 2013. This achievement opened the door for him to explore traditional and modern winemaking techniques across renowned regions such as New Zealand, California, Australia, and France. After gaining invaluable experience in diverse winemaking traditions and modern techniques, Colm returned to the UK and joined the Highweald team in 2020, becoming a vital part of our success story.
Vision & Philosophy
Colm’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in a passion for innovation and experimentation. He strongly believes in pushing boundaries while honouring established traditions, which is crucial for ensuring the highest quality of our wines.
This dynamic approach enables him to bring fresh and exciting ideas to the blending table, consistently driving our winemaking forward. When combined with experience gained across the globe, this vision led Highweald’s very first release, Brut Reserve NV, to be awarded multiple awards at the 2022 International Wine Challenge, including Champion English Sparkling Wine.
With Colm at the heart of our winemaking, Highweald is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines that reflect both tradition and innovation.
