Grown from hand-selected Pinot Noir fruit on Highweald’s Sussex vineyards, this Blanc de Noirs 2022 turns the classic English grape into a sparkling white of poise and personality. A gently sheltered site and cool climate encourage slow ripening, leading to lifted aromas of crisp red apple, chalky minerality and subtle hints of citrus zest that speak to the elegance of Sussex terroir.

On the palate, it’s fresh yet refined - vibrant red fruit notes mingle with a fine bead of mousse and a bright, persistent finish. The wine’s balance of delicate fruit intensity and crisp acidity showcases Highweald’s thoughtful approach to traditional method sparkling winemaking, resulting in a vintage release that’s expressive, beautifully structured, and undeniably English in character.

Provenance & Craftmanship

Highweald wines begin in our exceptional Sussex vineyards, where cool-climate conditions and ancient soils shape the purity and precision of our fruit. Every vine is hand-tended, and every grape is harvested at peak ripeness to capture the character of our land.

In the winery, traditional methods meet meticulous craft. Small-batch fermentations, careful blending, and patient ageing allow each wine to develop balance, elegance, and depth. From vine to bottle, our focus is simple: uncompromising quality and an authentic expression of Highweald terroir.

Committed to our sustainable vision, we are active members of Sustainable Wines of Britain.

Aroma

Redcurrant • Citrus • Brioche

Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, whole-bunch pressed with minimal colour pickup, give bright redcurrant and citrus lift. Fermentation split between tank and a small portion of neutral barrel adds gentle savoury depth. 18 months on lees develops subtle brioche notes that sit beneath the wine’s youthful, vibrant fruit.

Palate

Silky • Crisp • Vibrant

Traditional Method fermentation builds a crisp mousse and energetic structure. The small barrel-fermented portion contributes a fine silky texture, while the high natural acidity of the 2022 vintage keeps the palate lively. The blend’s dominance of Pinot Noir delivers vibrant red-fruit intensity at the core.

Finish

Long • Tense • Refined

Extended lees ageing creates an elegant refined length, supported by the wine’s naturally taut acidity. The balance of Pinot Noir structure and Meunier softness leads to a clean, tense finish, with lingering hints of red fruit and subtle autolytic complexity.

“Blanc de Noirs is always about finesse. With 2022 we aimed for purity and tension - fine red fruit, bright acidity, and just enough lees ageing to bring elegance without weight. It’s a wine that’s both youthful and seriously refined.
